This week, we had to use the concept of "See, Think & Wonder".
I think this reminds me of broken glass or shattered mirrors. In addition, it reminds me of a wallpaper. I wonder if I could make a mirror with this design on an entire wall space, it would give the area an artistic and aesthetic appearance and furthermore make the area seem larger and more spacious.
Besides that, this photo would make a fashionable and chic print for a tee shirt that can be worn by both men and women alike or even printed on a smart phone case.
I think of the tie-dye effect when I see how the colours are compositioned here. I wonder if shirts can be tie-dyed using this colour scheme.
In the second photo, I happened to chance upon these interesting street lamps while walking to Plaza Singapura from NAFA Campus 2. These street lamps have a spherical bulb and a thin curved, wave-like stands and a few lamps would surround a tree. Furthermore, these street lamps create interesting lines which contrast with the lines made by the tree.
I think of a flower's reproductive system when I see this. The tree being the pistil and the lamps being the stamen. I wonder if a chandelier can be made from this by flipping these street lamps upside down and hanging them from the ceiling in this current formation.
In addition, I wonder if a coat hanger could be formed from the design of these street lamps by repeating the pattern of how the street lamps are placed.
Furthermore, a jewellery stand can be constructed from the lines created by these street lamps. Besides furniture, I wonder if the design of these street lamps can be used to make a head massager.
In the third photo, I was making my way down to Douby Ghaut MRT Station when I passed by SOTA (School of the Arts). I happened to look up while stretching my neck and saw this enormous and magnificent tree. This was where I decided to take a picture. This tree is very grand and seemed like the centre piece of the area, this photo does no justice to it. This tree reminds me of the fairy tale "Jack and the Beanstalk" because of how large and tall it is. I wonder if I might find a giant if I climbed up the tree.
When I see this tree, I see interesting lines leading upwards. I think of climbing from "Jack and the Beanstalk" and I wonder if a ladder could be made from this tree.
Furthermore, when I look at this tree, I see prickly looking leaves on the base of the tree, resulting me to think of mould and dirt. I wonder if one could make an aesthetic looking toilet plunger inspired by this tree or even a feather duster which looks like this tree .
Every morning, I walk to school from the MRT station. One day I decided to walk a different route to school from the MRT station and happened to walk across this path. The path is made out of cement which has been cracked. I wonder if the ground cracked due to the intense heat of the sun on our little island, Singapore, or maybe the fractures of the ground were caused by the movement of underground pipes.
I see interesting cracks and lumps on the ground and its rough texture. When I see this, I think of the top layer of a freshly baked brownie, which has similar cracks formed on top of it too. Hence, I wonder if I could bake a giant brownie the size of this path, or even a room.
In addition, I see moss growing in some of the cracks along this path, This leads me to think of how nature presents itself to us humans in every way possible. It makes me wonder why we don't "present" ourselves to nature more often and why we spend majority of our time cooped up indoors instead of heading out more.
As I was heading out of NAFA, I happened to spot this detail in NAFA's building design when I was looking up to stretch my neck. It is an opening through a high wall. It looked very pretty as the position and composition of the trees seen through this hole moved as I walked.
Its circular shape leads me to think of a clock. I wonder if a giant clock can be installed here if large clock hands were placed in the centre of the opening. This would let NAFA have its very own giant clock and everyone who sees it would have a different impression of it from others as they would have a different view of the clock from where they see it from. This would also symbolise understanding different points of views
Likewise, I also see the beauty of nature from the greenery of the trees. I think that despite seeing greenery outside throughout Singapore, we do not seem to have much greenery indoors. Hence, I wonder what if we hand potted plants indoors in school, it would definitely brighten up the school and it may even increase student's creativity and attention in class.
Lastly, I was heading back to NAFA after lunch and I walked past a construction site. I chanced upon this beautiful set up made out of zinc boards. It had been draped with what I think is a money plant, or it may be some sort of creeping plant. There is also a plank board suspended in the middle of this set up. This makes me think of a makeshift lounge area.
To further add to this beautiful scene, more creeping plants are seen to be on the metal chains barricading the spot. I think it gives the whole set up a cute touch. Furthermore, I see a gap between the "ceiling" and the "wall" on the far end. This gap allows light to enter the space, brightening it.
I wonder if we could adapt this design to build individual reading or resting areas around the school. Skylights resembling the gap in the roof as seen in the picture can be installed in these individual reading areas to let natural sunlight in. Cushioned couches can replace the plank board that's suspended in the middle to let students rest on it, enabling them to do their work.
