Week 4 : TED Talks Summary - Tony Fadell: The First Secret of Design is ... Noticing

Tony Fadell mentioned that we, as humans, get used to "everyday things" fast aka habituate. Although habituation may hinder us from noticing little problems and thus preventing us from fixing them, it occurs as humans have limited brain power so our brains encode "everyday things" into habits to free up space and energy so that we can learn about new things. Designers have to observe these "everyday things" and try to improve them.

In addition, Tony Fadell also brought up tips on how to fight habituation.

1. Look Broader

   - Seeing the big picture.
   - To look at steps taken before and after a problem.
   - May even get rid of a problem if you take a step back.

2. Look Closer

   - Seeing the details.
   - Analyse if something is necessary or if its presence is because we are used to it.
        > Question if you can get rid of it.

3. Think Younger

  - As we grow ,we are more exposed to things and get more used to it.
  - Kids have yet gone through this process, when they run into a problem, they immediately try to solve it.
  - Thinking like kids may even result in discovering a better solution.
  - Having people with young minds will help stimulate others around and cause them to think alike.
