These advertisements advertise average products which cater to average people. However, they do not realise that this mass marketing does not work as the average person tends to ignore these advertisements as they have too many choices to choose from and do not care about their advertisement.
To make your ideas spread, you have to be remarkable. Being remarkable means that your idea needs to be worth making a remark about, only then will it spread
Seth mentioned the Japanese word "Otaku", which roughly means a desire overwhelming then to do the extreme. Instead of targeting average people, you should find out who cares. And sell to the minority, to the people who are actually listening, to the people who actually care. These people would obsess over it and even spread it to others who are also obsessed with it.
Tips on how to make your ideas spread:
1. Design Rules Now
- Design is free for you to design.
- Make design work for you.
2. Safe is Risky
- Be at the fringes.
- Marketing average products to average people is risky.
- Be different, be odd, be remarkable.
3. Very Good Is Boring
- Being very good will not work.
- Nobody notices "very good"
- The odd one stands out.
